as much as I hate hearing all the sad stories about the economy on the news (the swine flu seems like a vacation), I must say that I love the way this has changed my perspective on life. And there are so many fun and creative blogs devoted to the topic.
I've also read some pretty funny things that people have had to 'sacrifice'. One poor woman had to give up her personal trainer, getting mani-pedis, down-graded her cable and stopped a food delivery service—but come hell or high water she would NOT fire the gardener or give up bi-weekly root retouching on her hair. Now that's some serious belt tightening!
Some things I do:
no cable (and soon no TV at all)
netflix subscription (no movie theaters)
file the cruddy dry skin off my own feet and fingers
work out at home
use the public library
Somethings I could do better:
my phone bill is very expensive, I guess I could have a regular phone, but the iPhone is so awesome!
eat at home/pack a lunch more often
line dry my clothes
bike more—but hey gas is cheap again!
another thing I'm considering is this service by
deals into meals. The watch for the best grocery deals and let you know when there's a good sale that beats the prices of costco and wal-mart. It's really designed for people who do food storage and want to fill their basement with a years worth of food. You know the type :)
What are you doing to save?
